Solid Ground Week in Review and Links for the Upcoming Week of 8/10/26
Greetings Solid Grounder!
Hello from Pismo Beach, California, where it is sunny, sandy, in the 70s, and NOT smoky!
We welcome you to our peer support and discussion community and hope to see you in one or more of our groups this week, including our post livestream discussion. If you are a member at the $10/mo level or greater you will see group schedule and links at the end of this post.
This past Monday on the livestream we spoke with Dr. Bret Alderman about the phenomenon of student takeovers- specifically what happened several years ago at his Alma Mater, Evergreen University- and the pressure for “woke” education coming from students as well as from professors and academic authorities. We also discussed language manipulation, gender, and embodiment. Here’s that conversation if you missed it:
This week I also posted an interview with Josh Wood of Them Before Us, a non-profit organization that advocates for children’s rights to their mothers and fathers. The interview started with me asking about the org’s stance on gay marriage (they are against it). I thought we might address this and move on, but as it turned out Josh had a lot to say about it and the resulting conversation was thought-provoking enough to take up most of the interview. I look forward to hearing what others think after listening:
Coming up next Monday Robert B Davis will join SG for a follow up on our previous conversation about “social justice"/ “multiculturalism” in the counseling ethics codes. Here is that last discussion with Rob if you would like to check it out:
You can watch the Solid Ground livestream each Monday at 10am Pacific/1pm Eastern on my YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@theradicalcenter. We are live for one hour, and for a second hour immediately following the stream we welcome Solid Ground members to join us and continue the discussion off the record. If you are a subscriber at $10/mo or above, you will see a link to join below.
We welcome you to our peer support and discussion community and hope to see you in one or more of our groups this week, including our post livestream discussion.
